Fiamma F45s Awning
An awning is one of those additions that changes how you actually use your van or caravan day to day — shade, weather cover, and a bit of extra "outdoor room" — and the F45s is Fiamma's long-running manual wind-out option, built around an all-metal low-profile case that keeps the roofline clean when it's packed away.
Key features
- Manual wind-out operation with a redesigned crank mechanism
- Low-profile all-metal case available in black, polar white or titanium silver
- Sold across five length options, from roughly 2.6m to 4.5m canopy width
- Extends up to 2.5m depending on model
- Weight varies by size, generally in the 18–22kg range
RV use case
Because it's manual rather than electric, there's less to go wrong long-term — no motor, no switch wiring, just a wind arm and a case. That trade-off suits owners who'd rather have a simple mechanical system they can service themselves than an electric awning with a control module buried somewhere in the wiring. Sizing matters here: measure your van's usable side length carefully before choosing between the five available lengths, since an oversized awning changes how the case sits relative to doors and vents.
Pros
- Simple manual mechanism with fewer failure points than electric alternatives
- Low-profile case keeps the roofline tidy and reduces wind resistance while travelling
- Range of lengths and case colours to match different van sizes and finishes
Cons
- Manual winding takes a bit more physical effort than an electric equivalent
- Getting the length right matters — the wrong size can crowd doors or roof vents
- Like any wind-out awning, needs to be wound in properly before driving off in wind
Best for
Owners who want a dependable, low-maintenance manual awning without the added complexity and cost of an electric system.
Verdict
The F45s isn't trying to reinvent the wind-out awning — it's a well-executed, simple version of one, and for owners who'd rather crank a handle than troubleshoot a motor, that simplicity is the whole appeal.
